VRTI Researchers John Marshall and Paul Dryburgh co-author TNA blog on life of H.S. Sweetman

VRTI Research Fellow Dr John Marshall and TNA (UK) Medieval Records Specialist Dr Paul Dryburgh have co-authored a blog post on the life of Henry Savage Sweetman (1810–1844), who published a Calendar of documents relating to Ireland in Her Majesty’s Public Record Office, 1171–1307.

Henry Savage Sweetman: the man who uncovered Ireland’s medieval history

The piece traces Sweetman’s early life and career from his time in Trinity College, Dublin, to his later scholarship on records relating to Ireland housed in England, to his legacy in transforming archival access and analysis of these records.

You can find digital versions of the Calendar with searchable metadata and other reconstructed series of ‘lost’ medieval (and later records) here on the VRTI: https://virtualtreasury.ie/item/PUB-MED-Sweetman-CDI.
