Dr Elizabeth Biggs Discusses Ireland’s Medieval Treasurers with London Historians

VRTI Research Fellow Dr Elizabeth Biggs gave a talk this past week about the medieval treasurers of Ireland and their surviving records in the Jubilee Room in the UK Houses of Parliament to the London Historians (https://www.londonhistorians.org/), a group for those interested in the history of London.

Many of the Irish treasurers were summoned to Westminster to answer the English king because of potential problems with their finances and outright corruption. It just so happens that the Jubilee Room today is right next door to the room that in the Middle Ages was where those treasurers faced their judges- the Court of the Exchequer. Westminster’s historic spaces are also part of Ireland’s story going back seven centuries.
