2026 VRTI Research Showcase
Over half a millions items now available on the VRTI

On Tuesday 30 June 2026 we hosted the annual Virtual Treasury Research Showcase at the Uí Cadhain Theatre in Trinity College Dublin. It was a full house!

Across three sessions the audience heard about our fascinating History and Computer Science research currently under way, and exciting new research opening up in Europe.

‘Ireland in the Age of Revolutions’ had papers by Dr Joel Herman, Dr Timothy Murtagh and Dr Síle McGuckian on the American Revolution and Daniel O’Connell’s; campaign for Catholic Emancipation.

‘The Future of Digital History’ showed the power of the Knowledge Graph for Irish History with talks by Dr Lynn Kilgallon and Dr Neil Johnston (TNA) on the creation of the Graph and its use in the State Paper Ireland Gold Seam. Professor Jane Ohlmeyer gave a paper on the significant Knowledge Graph work which the Voices of Women in early modern Ireland is undertaking.

‘Rescued Stories, Shared Pasts’ explored the VRTI’s growing partnerships. Sarah Graham (PRONI) spoke about her wonderful conservation work on the Armagh Registers.  Jessica Baldwin (NAI) discussed her conservation work on the Exchequer Rolls (EX 1/1), the earliest records saved from the fire of 1922 . Dr Brian Gurrin introduced a very useful new interactive map for searching the 1766 Religious Census, and Dr Eamon Darcy (Maynooth University) toured early modern Ireland via the new ‘Birth of Local History‘ curated collection.
