Brian’s paper, which was was very well attended, was on ‘Census records in the VRTI’, with particular emphasis on census records from Connacht. He spoke about the search for surviving extracts from the five Irish censuses lost in the destruction of the Public Record Office (censuses of 1813, 1821, 1831, 1841 and 1851) and how any such survivors are being made publicly available in the Virtual Treasury.
